Matt Butler and Ashley Short were married on June 10th,
2017 at New Kent Winery.
Matt, originally from Oakton, VA, and Ashley, originally from
Williamsburg, VA, both attended James Madison University, however they didn’t
meet until after college -- four years ago, through a dating app. Right away,
they shared a connection of JMU and after their second date, they were
inseparable. “Three months into dating we went back to JMU for a visit and
that's when I really started to fall for him,” says Ashley. “It's crazy to
think I knew he was the one after only knowing him for 3 months!” After dating
for 2.5 years, Matt took Ashley to a lovely French restaurant in Great Falls,
on a beautiful, Wednesday evening and April, where he asked her to be his wife.
Next, it was time to begin planning for the big day! Ashley and Matt
chose New Kent Winery for its rustic elegance and old world charm, plus they’re
big wine lovers. Carrot Tree Kitchens is where Ashley’s family gets her
birthday cake every year (and they’re her family’s favorite), so Carrot Tree
was an easy choice for their wedding cake, and lastly, Ashley had ordered
flowers for school dances and special occasions from Morrison’s growing up --
and we were honored to help her and Matt with their wedding flowers.
It took Ashley some more time to decide on the color scheme for their wedding, however a lot of searching, as soon as she found a photo online of unique colored lavender dresses and magenta flowers, it was love at first sight! "I sent the photo to Arlene at Morrison's and she knocked the flowers out of the park," said Ashley. "They were the perfect accents for our wedding party photos and reception." To complement the magenta flowers, Ashley decided on gold accents and customized most of the decor herself (hello gold spray paint)! Her youngest sister helped with the calligraphy for the signs and everything came together perfectly.
When asked what her favorite memory from her wedding was, Ashley says, “My favorite part of the wedding was our ceremony in the Barrel Room at the winery -- the setting was so intimate and romantic with Edison bulb lights strung up across the barrels. Our priest, married my parents, my aunt and uncle, baptized my sisters and me, and buried my grandmother. He included personal messages into our ceremony, which made it so special and memorable.”
Congratulations to Matt and Ashley! We wish you a lifetime of love, joy and laughter.
