A Love Story 10 Years in the Making - Brenna & Blake
Brenna and Blake Ivey were married on November 11, 2017 at The Mariner's Museum in Newport News. Both born and raised in Newport
News, they met and started dating while in middle school at Gildersleeve
Middle School, continued dating through high school at Menchville High School, and then while they were both attending Christopher Newport University.
Their special love story is 10 years in the making. "It all started back in 8th
grade English class where we became fast friends," said Brenna. "The late night phone calls,
AOL Instant Messenger conversations, commenting back and forth on MySpace, and
time spent passing notes built a great friendship." Then on April 2, 2007 during spring break, Blake asked Brenna to be his girlfriend through Instant Messenger. She was ecstatic. And this was just the beginning of their relationship!
In high school, they read as Romeo and Juliet in 9th grade English class, drove each other around for the first time (and felt very grown up doing so), went to ring dance and proms, played Quidditch and ziplined, and was chanted to kiss in front of their whole senior class after they were voted "Best Couple!" Their journey took them onto college where they continued to support each other through their studies and meeting great, new friends. This was followed by graduation and taking their next steps towards their careers.
Both Brenna and Blake love red wine so the colors, burgundy and merlot, provided a lot of inspiration for their celebration. They also picked wedding date during their favorite season -- autumn. Inspired by the season, they tied together rustic themes with a lovely touch of elegance.
When asked about a special memory from their wedding (besides it being such a cold day), Brenna shares how special and significant their "first look" was to her and Blake. They did their first look on The Noland Trail's first bridge over Lake Maury -- a spot that they have walked together countless times during the course of their relationship. "It was absolutely beautiful - the colors
of the fall leaves reflected off the water and the photographers made sure we
were alone on the bridge together (which was difficult when trail walkers
wanted to come through), she said. "Seeing him stand there in his suit for the first
time gave me chills."
